In this place, in the year 1540, Don Vasco de Quiroga moved from Tzintzuntzan to the Bishopric of Michoacán, granting the city the status of capital of Michoacán from 1539 to 1580.
Pátzcuaro is a true colonial architectural jewel and one of the most beautiful typical towns in America. Here you can appreciate its unique constructions of adobe and tile, its religious monuments of Baroque and Neoclassical style in excellent conservation, as well as the harmony in its squares and fountains that together with the always friendly treatment of its people, invite you to return one and again.
Patzcuaro also has lakes and islands inhabited by the indigenous community that still retains much of their customs and traditions.
